How to Determinate with the Major
November 15th, 2007 The majority of the students enter the university without understanding what they want to do in the future and without clear idea about future profession. What is the reason of it?
The first year in the college is very stressful period of time and students have many things to do and many problems to solve. But unfortunately, the question of the major choosing is one of the last to be determined. Often students postpone this decision, but with every year it becomes more and more complicated.
There are some essential courses for all majors, such as basic math, history, foreign languages, science etc. The attending of these necessary classes often helps the students to determinate the desirable and most appropriate major.
In some colleges and universities there is a special test, called CLEP, which allows to understand the level of knowledge on the basic courses and choose the most appropriate disciplines.
During the first semester in the university the students usually learn the university campus and become accustomed to the student life, familiarize with the university library etc. Besides, students learn how to manage the time and how to prepare effective to the tests.
After the first semester students usually begin to think what to do in the future life. Some students choose the profession at once. The majority changes the desirable major several times during the studying. To make the right decision it is desirable to attend some testing classes. It is essential to determinate with the major in the beginning of the college and do form the future career beforehand. If the person begins to think about future career after graduation, it can be very late and many things can be missed. In the case of the right choice, the student will attend during the university years only classes which refer to that major, which the student is interested in.
